December 5th – Fly Me to Miami Welcomes its First Audiences at Chelsea Studios

As I kick off our Fly Me to Miami blog with its first post, it is hard to put into the words how thrilling it is that tomorrow afternoon we will be presenting our show to its first audiences. I speak for the whole creative team–who will be contributing posts as we continue on this exciting journey–when I write how eager we are to see how audiences will react to all of our efforts. We have prepared a forty-minute showcase which will be presented twice to a select group of individuals at Chelsea Studios. I hope that people will see a musical the way a musical is supposed to be, with well written music, a story that is absolutely as important as the music, and all working in tandem together.

It took only 5 months to write but it’s taken 5 years to get us to this point. Knowing how challenging it is to get a new musical off the ground, I still marvel how this show first revealed itself to me in the most simple and extraordinary way. I had been meditating for 40 days straight on the story of Seppe Ancone, and felt like something was brewing, when on the 41st day I sat down at my piano and the synopsis came to me in one moment, complete in nine sentences. Today, many days (months and years!) later, I am all too aware that it’s one thing to have an idea; it’s another thing to actually develop it into something that is hopefully going to inspire people for decades. Tomorrow we’ll get our first, illuminating look at what ‘s next for our show….stay tuned!
